NOTE: All the paintings, with a couple of exceptions of impressions of the battlefield after the battle, were painted long after the battle by artists who were not present. These artists usually researched carefully to present scenes that occurred in the memories of some participants, including the uniforms and status of the men -- but one must always remember these were paintings done retrospectively not photographs of the action.
